The Annual Mechanicsburg Halloween Parade is on Tuesday, October 14th this year. I'm not sure if that's the official name or not, but it's good enough for me.
They have a website:
Mechanicsburg Halloween Parade Association.
I know some friends of mine are trying to plan something, so I'm posting this as way for them to collaborate their thoughts. It might be funny to read what they have to say as well.
Enjoy,
Chris

My vote is for the timeline of characters...
I want to be the horse theif in portable stocks :) Think I could make them pretty easy out of wood and some hinges...
somebody has to let me out of them after the parade of course :P

I'm in IF:
1. we get 5 or more people for the parade (so we need at least 2 more)
2. we decide on our costumes before the weekend (so we can get together
Sunday to work on them if we need to - which I'm sure we will for the signs
if we do that one.)
3. I get to have a few drinks before the parade if it's raining outside
I like both the ideas, but if we do the 'through history' thing we need to
start working out some details. I'll try to do some research tonight at the
library if I have time. I think we could definitely use a cowboy, indian,
saloon girl (there was a big temperance movement during that time...so, it
could be a nun too if we wanted), and it would be helpful to have Andrew
Jackson (my honey makes an impressive president if we could convince him -
need to get a top hat!). Anybody we know have a mechanic outfit? That would
be really cute for the M-burg sign.

Ladies and germs, only 1 week left until the Halloween parade!! We
should finalize who's going to be there and what we're going to dress up
as. So far, Mandy and I are definites and Stephanie is a definitely not
(she has to work--the poopy head). So of the rest of you'se guys, who's
in?
Also, it sounded like we kind of had the theme narrowed down to two
possibilities: (1) we go as Jubilee Day or (2) we go as a historical
timeline of characters. Unless there are any more suggestions, I
recommend we choose between these two so we can get our costumes
together. Sound good?
Woo hoo! Parade!!!

Thanks Chris!
Nothing to contribute at this time, just want to make sure I'm using this right so I'm ready to discuss.
I'm having trouble picturing your outfit Gene, but anything that involves you in tights will sure be fun! :-)

Gene, are you in for the parade? Amy, does that five person min. include you, or you would make 6?
Time to start recruiting some Basoms!!!! Chris, are you and Ang in? Wasn't sure since you're getting hitched and all just a few days prior.
WHEN IS THE NEXT BODYFAT CONTEST!!!??? :)

So far it sounds like Gene, Amy, Mandy, and I are in. No word from Blake, Jen, Sue, or Walt yet. What's up, people!?
I put the word out to my brothers, so hopefully we'll have some more people join us soon so we can get moving on costumes.
For my costume, I think I'd like to be MASH-Daddy, the 70's pimp who runs a ho business from his caddy parked in front of Rakestraw's.

What, no Walt :P I'm not sure that Chris and Angela aren't going to be able to play with it being so close to their wedding. I'm sure we can dig up somebody to go out with us... oh, speaking of which... do skeletons count :)

Well crap...sorry Amy, I meant to put 5PM tonight...not Friday night...seeing that you wanted to research tonight.
Gene...I just re-read your message and got the whole "dig up" part.
You're sick man...really sick!
Although, you may be onto something! Does anyone know who the founder was, and where s/he are burried?

I believe the founder of Mechanicsburg was one Jan A. Mechanic, a wealthy baron from the Black Forest region of Germany. In 1824 he left Europe bound for the New World. He settled in a dense patch of forest that is the current day town square. Over the next few years, a number of Mechanic's relatives joined him, and they formally established Mechanic's Burg in 1828. His brother Fritz was the first postman and his Aunt Helga was he first town gossip. Ironically enough, Mechanic's Burg did not have an actual mechanic until sometime around 1936 when Stan Putney, then a high school gym teacher, declared, "This is stupid. What is a town named Mechanicsburg doing without a mechanic?" And thus Putney's Sunoco on East Main Street came into existence and Mechanicsburg finally had its first mechanic. The End.
Stay tuned for tomorrow's exciting episode: "How the High School got its Mascot."
By they way, from the sounds of it, it looks like only the four of us are willing to be in the parade. As much as I hate to say it, do you guys want to officially call it off for this year? Or do you still want to try to do something with 4 people?

Seeing that it's Tuesday and no one responded, I'd say it's off. Hmmm...interesting story there Ben...although I'd like to hear how Jubilee Day started...me thinks it'd be an interesting story!
