Please do not send me forward emails.

I know that you love me and care about me. You do not need to exhibit this love by sending me forward emails.

If you get an email from somebody else that says something like, "Send this to X other people.", please just assume that I have already seen that email. I know that some of these forward emails make you somehow think that if you don't send it to me then I'll think that you must not care about me. This is very untrue.

Receiving these emails does however, have a very real affect upon me. They make me want to slap the #### out of you. I don't want to feel like slapping the #### out of you but I will feel that way if you send me another forward email.

Now I know that you're probably reading this thinking, "Man he's a real jerk. How could he be this way when all I'm trying to do is show how much I care about him." I'm not a real jerk. I would very much like to hear from you. However, you hitting the FORWARD button in your email, and pasting my name in with 35 other people is not really the same as you writing ME an email and letting me know what's going on in your life.

As a matter of fact, when you send me an email that you are also sending to a number of other people, you are sending my email address to those other people. The real problem that I have with that is, they will probably forward the email to a bunch of people, along with my email address. At the end of this forward-an-email chain is a person who collects email addresses for companies that send spam email. Once you get on that list, you never get off.

Here's a tip, if you really must send out a forward email, instead of pasting the 25 email addresses that you're sending it to in the TO: box put it in the BCC: box. BCC stands for Blind Carbon Copy. Blind Carbon Copy is a way to send someone an email without the other recipients knowing that the BCC people also got the email. In other words, if you BCC everybody in the email, then they all think they're the only ones who got it. You may be required to put at least one email address in the to: box. I recommend putting your own email address in the To: box and everybody else's in the BCC: box. Then just delete the email you just sent to yourself.

Jokes are funny. I like jokes. If you're going to send me jokes, please remove all of the TAB's and the >> type of junk that gets in an email once it's been forwarded 3,000 times. Basically remove all the extra crap until all you have left is the joke.

Then I won't mind if you send it to me. As long as I'm the only recipient of the email or you put me in the BCC: list, which is essentially the same as far as I'm concerned.

CC is also often interpreted to be an abbreviation for courtesy copy, which may be a misnomer now that email is so prevalant among the common people.

Proof text: What is CC?

Both interpretations are acceptable.
