Embarassing moments from the Ducks Unlimited Banquet

Posted on April 7, 2003 10:00 AM

Angela and I attended a Ducks Unlimited banquet this weekend with some friends. It was a good time. We bought tickets for the dinner, and the food and drinks were included. We bought 100 dollars worth of raffle tickets but we didn't win anything. Oh well, it's for a good cause. Apparently they hold this banquet each year. We had a great time and we'll definitely be back next year. Check out the Ducks Unlimited website for more info on that organization.

A funny thing happened to me when we were there. Early in the evening I went to visit the Men's room. When I walked in I thought it was odd that the Men's room had no urinals, but I figured maybe they just had decided to only put in toilets. I entered a stall, lifted the seat like any gentleman, and did my business. Right after I entered the stall and closed the door, I noticed that someone had entered the bathroom and gone into the stall right beside mine. When I was done I lowered the toilet seat, flushed, and walked out to wash my hands.

The person in the stall beside me finished up at about the same time. Of course I was surprised when we both walked out and I saw in the mirror that the other person was one of the ladies working for the benefit selling raffle tickets. I asked, "Am I in the wrong bathroom?" She said, "I think so." I went to the door and opened it to look at the front. Sure enough there was a little picture of person wearing a dress and underneath it said clearly, "Women" Well, I exited the Women's restroom and went the Men's restroom to wash my hands. Looking in the mirror over the sink, I saw that my face was very red. I couldn't believe it. I hadn't even had that much to drink yet.

After finishing up in the Men's restroom I walked down to the raffle ticket table and apologized to the young lady. She told me, "That's ok. I had a good laugh about it." I could also tell that her friends were having a good laugh about it as well. The rest of the night, as I drank more, I made good and sure which bathroom I was going in.

An extra note, this was at Weishaven Hall, the place where my wedding reception will be in about 6 months. Michael, the guy who manages the hall, told Angela that at least I'll know for the future which bathroom to use. Add/View Comments
