Who Can It Be Now?

Do you know who Craig Morrow is?

Neither do I, but I get phone calls for him all the time. When we moved into our new house, we asked the phone company for an unlisted number, and we got one. So now our number is not listed in the phone book.

Unfortunately, it was listed in the phone book a few years ago. Some guy named Craig Morrow had the number and he had it listed in the phone book in his name.

The main reason why I (or any other person, I'll wager) got an unlisted number, was so that I wouldn't get calls from telemarketers bugging me to buy something. I didn't get an unlisted number so that people I know couldn't look me up in the phone book.

Now I have the worst of both worlds. My friends can't look up my number in the phone book. But telemarketers who have lists made from phone books of ages past still call my number looking for friggin Craig Morrow.

Here's a little recommendation for the phone companies. Keep a pool of numbers that you use for unlisted numbers, and never use them for listed numbers. If somebody wants to stop "unlisting" their number then take that number out of the pool. That way, when I ask for an unlisted number, I can rest assured that it was never listed.

The good news is apparently now telemarketers will be required to post useful information to my callerid box. According to this article, I should get less calls that say "Out Of Area" or "Unavailable", at least that's what I'm hoping. That way I'll just not answer the friggin phone.

One of the most annoying things that happens is when I tell the person on the other end of the line, that no Craig Morrow doesn't have this phone number anymore, they will then try to sell whatever crap they're peddling to me! Here's a news flash for you telemarketers out there:

IF I WANT TO BUY SOMETHING, I GO TO A STORE OR TO A WEBPAGE AND FIND IT AND BUY IT!

I don't need somebody to actively sell me something. I'm perfectly capable of figuring out that I need something or that I think I need it, and then I buy it... simple. Add/View Comments (1)

The Good Ol' Days

I just recently archived all the stuff I have on my geocities page that I created a long time ago.

For those of you who remember it, I put a copy of it on here so you can take a walk down memory lane.

I'm not really planning to edit any of it to make it work more than it does when I simply copy it in. In essence, your mileage my vary. Add/View Comments (1)

Always A Bridesmaid...

Although I am a dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan, I have to send my condolences to all the fans of the Philadelphia Eagles after last night's loss to the Carolina Panthers in the NFC Championship Game.

Well, maybe not to all Eagles fans. Just the ones who aren't EXTREMELY annoying, including my good friend Amy.

It must be heartbreaking to see your team get 1 step away from going to the Superbowl and be denied, 3 times in a row.

I understand that injuries are a fundamental part of the National Football League, but I also understand that it has to be aggravating to think about "what could have been" if it weren't for your best players not being at 100%.

I want to say, that although I didn't root for the Eagles, I have to give them props, they had a good year. And to fans like my friend Amy, I say, "There's always next year."

Heck, I was saying that like 2 weeks ago. Add/View Comments (2)

The South Beach Chronicles

Posted on January 11, 2004 3:50 PM

As of January 4th, 2004, Angela and I started the South Beach Diet. She wanted to try it and I, being the supportive husband that I am, told her that I would do it with her.

For those of you who don't know what the South Beach diet is about, it's similar to the Atkins diet in that it eliminates carbohydrates, especially in the first two weeks.

So for the last week now, we've eaten very little carbohydrates. Breakfast has been Better 'N Eggs egg substitute and two slices of canadian bacon. Angela usually has a 6oz glass of V8 vegetable juice, which I decline due to my aversion to tomato-like juices. Lunch is usually a salad with fresh veggies and some form of protein, i.e. tuna, chicken, grilled steak...

You're allowed to snack. A mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack are in the schedule. Snacks include low-fat mozzerella string cheese, sugar-free jello, pistachio nuts (30 max) and celery with Laughing Cow Light Cheese.

I can honestly say I haven't been too hungry so far, although I do still miss the forbidden foods such as french fries, pizza, potato chips, breads, and deep fried cheese sticks and onion rings.

Dinner is usually pretty tasty. So far we've eaten grilled chicken, grilled salmon (for Angela), london broil on the grill, ground sirloin hamburger, and vegetables like sauteed peppers and onions, mushrooms, cauliflower "mashed potatoes", and steamed green beans.

Overall, it's not too bad so far. The biggest problem is keeping a variety so that you don't get sick of what you're eating.
