To Mix Or Not To Mix?

Does mixing different types of alcohols have an extra-inebriating affect? The question get's answered at NewScientist.com.

It has always been my theory that mixing drinks has no direct affect upon how drunk you get or how much of a hangover you feel the next day. My theory is that you usually start out drinking one kind of alcohol, maybe beer or wine, then you start to feel "buzzed." After getting a buzz, you then feel like hitting some of the harder stuff. At that point, your judgement is impaired and you drink more than you would have if you had started out on the hard stuff.

You can also run into problems if you drink alcoholic drinks that do a good job of "hiding" the alcohol content in them. Some drinks taste like they don't have much alcohol in them when they actually do. Anyone who has had a well-made Long Island Iced Tea probably knows what I'm talking about. After you've had a few of these drinks you start to feel the effect and you can lose your judgement that would normally make you hold back.

If you want to hear a funny Long Island Iced Tea story, just ask Angela about the 2nd time I met her parents while we were on our Disney Vacation. Add/View Comments
