Camping Trip to Indiana

This weekend we went on a camping trip to Indiana to attend a family reunion. We stayed at Raccoon Lake State Park more officially known as the Raccoon State Recreation Area.

The drive was long. It took us about 13 hours to drive out, pulling my mom's 17' Palomino camper with my truck. We packed everybody into my truck and headed out first thing in the morning. That's my mom, my niece, Angela, Taylor, and me for this trip. Unfortunately, my truck doesn't go as fast as it normally does and the gas mileage is worse, so it took us a bit longer than it would have just driving the truck alone.

Camping was fun, we took the girls to the beach on the lake the first day we were there for a little, and the second day we went to the reunion up in Marshall, Indiana. The first day my mom visited with family up in Crawfordsville so we headed back to camp with only the GPS as our guide, which took us on a nice scenic tour of some back country roads. It seems like our GPS doesn't mind going off the beaten path which can be interesting at times.

Although our camping trip was short we tried to make the best of it, cooking on the fire both nights (smores! and hot dogs!) We sang some campfire songs and the girls played with glowstick bracelets and with their new flashlights recently purchased at the Crawfordsville Walmart. Wake up sleepy head!

The second day, Taylor must have eaten something that didn't agree with her little belly because she got sick, but after taking a nappy on a couple beach towels out in the fresh air, she woke up ready to play some more. Our camping spot was in a nice location, pretty close to both the playground and the "modern restrooms"

The actual drive out and back was mostly uneventful, if somewhat brutal. Thank you Brett and Jess for letting us borrow the DVD players for the kids! We did get to stop at Steak N Shake on the way out and the way back for "happy hour" half-priced milkshakes (2-4pm) And of course, my mom was able to eat her much beloved pork tenderloin sandwiches both days that we were there.

Fun, fun, but I have to say that I'm ready to stay home for a bit, if only to sleep in my own bed where I don't have to wear a catcher's mask to defend myself from a 3-year-old bed hog who tosses and turns all night long.
