A Cruel Twist of Fate

In week #2 of the 2007 NFL season, The Philadelphia Eagles faced the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football. What made the game interesting for me was the fact that I was matched up against Amy in the fantasy football. There were three players left to play on Monday night, Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook, and David Akers. Amy had McNabb and Westbrook, while I had David Akers on my FF team. The game couldn't have played out much better for me if I had scripted it myself. McNabb and Westbrook were marginalized while the only player on the Eagles that scored was Akers. I was ecstatic with the outcome, as I won the game in Fantasy Football, and the Eagles still lost.Fast forward to last night. 3 weeks later the Cowboys are playing the Buffalo Bills whose defense has been ranked the worst so far in the 2007 season. In Fantasy Football, I am facing Walt whose Chicago Bears were able to not only beat the 4-0 Green Bay Packers the night before, but score some nice points for Walt in FF. Going into Monday night, I am down by 21 points, but I still have Tony Romo and Marion Barber to play. On the other hand, Walt has Nick Folk the rookie Dallas kicker. Down by 21 points doesn't look too bad considering I have the highest ranked QB in Fantasy Football, and they are playing what is supposed to be the worst defense in the league.
Could Fate resist the temptation to lay a vicious smackdown on me and my beloved Cowboys?
No.
Going into the half, Tony Romo has a total of 4 interceptions and the game is tied 10-10. Things don't look much better in the 2nd half, with Romo tossing another pick, and then later fumbling the ball, with the Bills recovering.
All in all, it was a nightmare of a game for Romo with 5 picks and 1 fumble. Meanwhile, the rookie kicker, Nick Folk is having the game of his life, kicking 4 out of 4 good kicks, the last one to win the game, even after the old icing the kicker trick! Sorry Walt, FF isn't going to give you points for that extra practice kick! Just seconds before kicking the winning field goal, Nick Folk kicked a near perfect onside kick! (Once again, no FF points for the onside kick.)
That was one of the craziest comebacks I've seen. I can't imagine what it must be like for the Buffalo Bills fans in the stadium. That stadium was packed all the way down to the final whistle. I wonder how many accidents happened on the roadways after that game, because I am sure that most of the people walking out of that stadium were in shock!
The Dallas Cowboys are still undefeated. That victory was bittersweet on a couple different levels. The good news: Cowboys are 5-0, and I picked them to win in the football pool. The bad news: They totally hosed me in Fantasy Football this week, and things are looking really scary for next week when Tom Brady, Randy Moss and the gang come to big D.
