To exclude keywords add a minus to them. Example keyword searches:
Keywords: Halloween -Chris -- same as: +Halloween -Chris

Would give you all photos with the Halloween keyword associated, but none with Chris.

Keywords: Halloween Chris

Would give you potentially all photos of Chris and all photos of Halloween

Play around with the ANY and ALL switches. If you do positive with All that means that any picture must have all your positive keywords, so

Keywords: Gene Amy (with Positive All)
would give you all pictures (potentially) with Gene and Amy in them. No pictures with Gene without Amy and vice versa.

Keywords: Gene Amy (with positive Any)
is the default and gives you all pictures with Gene or Amy or both in them.

The negative Any and All work similarily.

Keywords: Chris -Gene -Amy (with negative Any)
would give you all pictures that have Chris in them but don't have Gene AND amy in them, but would give you pictures with either Gene or Amy with Chris.

Keywords: Chris -Gene -Amy (with negative All)
would give you all pictures that have Chris in them but don't have Gene or Amy in them.

There's other combinations I could do, but I think this is about as good as you're going to get for now.
